MEETING AGENDA

Scope and objectives of meeting

The third SUT-Governance project meeting in Turnovo, Bulgaria has several main goals: First, to review the progress of the work and the accomplishments achieved since the project´s start. Second, to discuss the framework conditions and the indicative factors of success of partnerships for sustainable (urban) tourism in the study countries, as identified in the pilot national cases. Third, to finalize the methodology and the research focus of WP3 ´Best Practice Cases´ and outline the Study Questionnaire. Finally, to elaborate on the perceived research and policy implication of the project in the study countries and the larger European Union, plan the next the work steps and map out publications, disseminations, and other public outreach activities.

This third meeting is viewed as key to the project development with the research focus shifting from the national scales to the city and partnership case study levels aiming to identify the critical agents and factors of success of partnership formation and development for sustainable urban tourism in European urban contexts. Finally, the participation of several key urban development and tourism actors from Bulgaria is expected to further enlighten the main research topics and issues of interest tackled by the project.

  • Roumen Rashev, Mayor of Veliko Turnovo: Welcomes the participants, outlines the key objectives of Turnovo for sustainable tourism development and presents the key stakeholders in relevant policy-making and practices
  • Ivan Haralampiev, Rector of Veliko Turnovo University: Welcomes the participants and discusses the role of the University in the project´s development and university extension activities supporting local/city development (focusing on tourism and relevant sectors)
  • K. Paskaleva, Project Co-ordinator: "Innovative Partnerships for Sustainable Urban Tourism: The framework approach and the European Experience" Summary of project outline and key preliminary research findings.
Session 1: Year 1 Progress Report
